Braid withdrawn from Guerrilla Games, Slamdance

PULLEDFollowing the dropping of Super Columbine Massacre RPG (SCMRPG) from the list of finalists for Guerrilla Games Competition of the Slamdance Film Festival, another developer pulled his game from the event. SCMRPG had been voted in by the judges but the event later dropped the SCMRPG due to public pressure.

Braid creator Jonathan Blow withdrew his game in protest. Although Blow thinks “SCMRPG lacks compassion” and finds “the Artist’s Statement disingenuous,” he still felt that the game pushed “the boundaries of what games are about.”

Here’s his reason as quoted by GamePolitics.com:

Â…games should be taken seriously as an art form that can expand the boundaries of human experienceÂ… As an art form they contain a tremendous power to shift perspective and to heighten wisdomÂ… But if games are denied their appropriate level of societal recognition, growth of the form will be very difficult, and human culture will be the lesser for it.
