Bungie Studio's Frank O'Connor joins Microsoft team, hints at big project - Image 1Bungie Studios has sent word via its official site that their content manager, Frank OÂ’Connor, is making plans to leave the company. Not that he’s going to be traveling too far from home, though. O’Connor notes in his farewell letter to the fans that he’ll be moving to Microsoft to help with the development of the Halo franchise (Halo Wars, Halo 3).

O’Connor also hinted that he’s working on some new mystery project, one that he’s branded as the “Next Big Thing.” As O’Connor elaborated in part of his letter:

It was very hard for me to make the decision to move on, but one thing that made it just a bit easier, was seeing the amazing work thatÂ’s coming down the pipe. I was busy working on a story for one of our next games, an experience that is destined to surprise, amaze and entertain like nothing weÂ’ve ever made before. That game has an amazing team invested in it, and one that will be tasked with building the Next Big Thing.

Last month, Microsoft released a memo requesting for Creative Directors, Game Engineers and the like to join up for what appeared to be a new production within the Halo franchise. No exact details were mentioned regarding the project, although it was reported to be a Microsoft Game Studios-only affair, to be supervised by Peter Jackson. Could this be the new gig O’Connor’s signing up for? For the moment, it’s anybody’s guess
