Bungie: We almost went for Halo 4 instead of Halo: Reach

halo_reach_artgiSure, Bungie has vehemently denied the buzz that a Halo 4 is lined up in their developing room. While Halo: Reach has been proclaimed to be the last iteration in the vastly famous Halo franchise, truth is Bungie actually did think about pushing through with Halo 4 instead.

This was disclosed by Bungie community director Brian Jarrard, in an interview with MTV Multiplayer. According to him:

“Even before the idea to build a game based on Reach came about, a lot of other concepts were explored, up to and including a proper Halo 4, where Mater Chief was going to wake up from cryo-sleep and we were going to tell that story,” he said.

Eventually, however, what made them decide against this idea was the fact that “it just wasn’t as interesting to the team to just pick up where that left off and all the baggage that came with it.” Reach, therefore, is that nice, fitting ending to the whole trilogy. “We don’t want to open up a whole bunch of doors that we’re not going to close,” said Jarrard.

“By the end of this, it’s all going to come to a nice, neat finish, and if people want to then go play the Halo trilogy, I think they’ll have a better understanding of what’s going on, but it’s not required at all.”
