Burnout Dominator ad busted for being “irresponsible”

UK’s still on the warpath against irresponsible gaming, it seems. This time, it’s not a game that’s being condemned by British authorities, but rather, an advertisement for one of the games. The ad in question, pictured above, is for Burnout Dominator, a racing game for the PSP, and it’s under fire from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for being irresponsible, following public complaints.

According to a report from GamesIndustry, an ASA spokesperson revealed that 37 complaints had been lodged against the ad. Complainants described the advertisement as being “offensive as it condoned and was likely to encourage violence, dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour such as vandalism.”

The slogan was also faulted for being irresponsible, citing that the slogan “could be seen to condone a violent lifestyle, anti-social behaviour or dangerous driving,” making it in breach of advertising codes, according to the spokesperson.

Electronic Arts said it would remove the ads, abiding by the ASA’s instructions to them.
