Calypso, New Entropia Universe Artists’ City, to Open Very Soon

Entropia Universe is the world’s fastest growing virtual community, but utilizes an actual cash economy. Today the people behind it announced the opening of a new city on the virtual planet of Calypso, New Oxford. The opening proper is scheduled for 28 April 2006.

Calypso is to be an artist’s colony, where visual artists, fashion designers, musicians and other artists will have opportunities to promote their works in the “real world.” In addition, educators will be able to teach courses, conducting classes via a live video feed at virtual academies. Some have already begun exploring this venue, including Professor Ernst Bilgren of Stockholm’s prestigious Royal Academy of Art.

Carl Uggla, Entropia’s Director of Marketing and Special projects, says, “Now, for the first time, individuals can appreciate great artwork and fashion, learn to be an artist or designer through virtual classes, enter contests/win prizes, meet real-world artists, critics and more, in a virtual community. We are even looking into negotiating with legendary musicians, bands and record and film companies to encompass a wide range of entertainment in New Oxford.”
