Castlevania SOTN breaks XBLA size limit

Alucard and his classy lines

Whenever Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is mentioned, one can’t help but immediately recall any of the names “Belmont”, “Alucard”, “Alucart”, or that ever so infamous question posed by the vampire. However, besides finding out that man is a miserable little pile of secrets, it looks like this classic Konami title is out to do something big by breaking the 50MB size limit once it is released on XBLA, according to Microsoft‘s Greg Canessa.

Canessa points out that the 50MB was placed to allow gamers to put more games in their hard drives, as well as to keep downloads fast. However, in the case of SOTN, Microsoft has granted an exception and he goes on to say that it may not be the last time it will allow this either.

Besides breaking the size limit though, SOTN will also be going against several other XBLA norms, by being available to all XBLA users and being small enough to fit on a memory unit.

UPDATE: to clarify the issue, an MS representative has contacted GameSpot to say that SOTN will have a free DEMO version, abd that it will not fit onto a 64MB memory unit. There is still no word as to how many MS Points it will cost to download the full game, though.
