CCP focusing on DirectX 9 optimization, DirectX 10 support in EVE Online put on backburner

EVE Online - Image 1Those waiting for DirectX 10 support in EVE Online will have to wait a little while longer. According to Shacknews, CCP has put adding DirectX 10 support on the backburner.

This was apparently done so the company could focus on optimizing DirectX 9 support. Another reason is an upcoming upgrade that will reportedly add normal and specular mapping as well as other graphical features to EVE Online.

DirectX 10 is the latest available version of Microsoft‘s application programming interfaces for use in multimedia-related tasks. An incremental update, Direct X 10.1, is expected in January 2008.
