Video games have made major strides in visuals thanks to landmark games like Gears of War and Heavenly Sword so it’s just about time it made strides in the audio quality department as well. This is what Sierra’s new game, Prototype, sets out to do.

Prototype (PC, 360, PS3) will be the first game ever to feature Neural-THX 7.1 Surround sound. With it, gamers will be able extend their audio setup with two additional speakers. The additional speakers will allow for a 360-degree audio experience.

The game will have elements where sound will play a role, so having speakers set up in front, beside and behind the gamer will make for a more interactive environment. This will allow gamers to be able to react more easily to audio cues from the game.

A gunshot from behind, for example, will be played from the speaker behind the gamer, making the experience more realistic. The Neural-THX 7.1 Surround system will be demonstrated at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show at the THX booth.
