Chip8me v0.9 - Image 1We’re letting the Nintendo DS owners out there know that developer ETk has recently released Chip8me version 0.9 for the community’s use.

As its name implies, this homebrew is actually a Chip 8 emulator for the DS console. This app uses the handheld’s touchscreen to enable full keyboard support, and has been reported to be reliable on all the games ETk tested it on.

Here’s a lowdown of its features:

  • Keyboard with game-keys (autodetection).
  • Zoom 1x, 2x or 4x.
  • Ability to change chip8 default colors.
  • 100% compatible with chip8 games (all I’ve tried)
  • Nice file selection GUI (avoids non-chip8 roms)
  • Go back to file browser by pressing SELECT button
  • If the game is waiting for a key press, the green light turns yellow. (Critical error: red light)

ETk states that future updates may include some much-needed sound and SuperChip8 support. Other details such as Chip8me’s control setup are available in the file bundle’s readme.

In case you run into bugs, you may want to visit ETk’s site via the source link to let the author know.
