Chris Lewis thinks about the next Xbox

come home... come to the light...Work is “happening right now.” According to Kikizo, that’s what Peter Moore and Chris Lewis had to say about the next Xbox. Have you got really juicy details? Tell us more!

Of course, at this stage, all you can really get out of these guys are carefully-worded hints and some explanations about the MS business model. But it all sounds good, and we’re excited.

Lewis said that they keep “development cycles very fast and high, that is the nature of the company” and this is “no different than any other part of Microsoft.” Of course, fast and high doesn’t mean that the Xbox 360 is going to become obsolete. The 360 won’t die as long as there are possible directions of expansion: accessories, storage (we agree with that; we need more storage for all of our downloads), and Xbox Live (one of the few things that we really look forward to at the end of the day, right?).

In fact, Lewis said that he thinks the lifespan of the 360 will be longer than the old Xbox.

Finally, Moore adds some notes about HD DVD. No, it won’t be used for games (despite any rumors you might have heard), and no, he doesn’t think that next-gen movies are going to take off quickly. Why? Because to actually see the difference between good old DVD versus the new ones, you need to own a TV that’s big enough. We at QJ are tempted to agree, but it’d be nice if we actually had some market data: let’s have a quick show of hands, please.
