City of Heroes: flight poses scheduled for issue 8 delayed

grounded?

A Cryptic Studios Game Design by the board handle of Positron made a post at the City of Heroes Official Forums stating that they will be delaying the release of flight poses in Issue 8 of NCSoft‘s City of Heroes. This is in regards to the comments and criticisms that the gameplay feature has generated.

Here is the pertinent part of the post:

Based on everyone’s feedback about the changes to travel animations (in particular the alternate flight poses and strafing/banking) we’ve decided to push back introducing flight poses for now. We really like them, as did many of you, and we were hoping to get them into the game in conjunction with wings. Unfortunately, we just ran out of time to get everything working the way we really want it to work. So rather than getting it in now as is, making some of you happy and some of you unhappy, weÂ’re going to push this feature back a bit so weÂ’ll have the time to fully implement what we really want to do.

Positron notes that they want make sure that flight poses should be selectable before they implement the feature on live gameplay. He notes that the players have very strong feelings as to what pose the characters should take when they fly. Also he says that they’ll make sure that the hover feature should not use the alternate flight animations.

He also says that there’s a code issue that’s preventing hover from getting the right triggers to play its animation. Instead it uses the flight animations, which in turn causes it to use the alternate flight animations. They agree that the hover animation glitch looks silly and that it wasn’t done on purpose.

He adds that they need to fix the camera/orientation problem that’s caused by the alternate strafe mode and that they also want to clean up the animations in the actions (running jumping flying) during alternate strafe mode. Furthermore they’ll also have to adjust turning speed.

Developers listening to players: always good news.
