Cliff Bleszinski - Image 1Although Cliff Bleszinski might think that Metal Gear Solid 4‘s brand of “passive entertainment” is on the way out, he still appreciates the sheer quality of the game’s cutscenes.

Talking to CVG, the outspoken Gears of War 2 designer admitted that he’s “a huge fan of Kojima” and called MGS4‘s cutscenes “phenomenal”.

“I think it has the best sound and real-time [cut scenes] I’ve seen in the industry,” said Bleszinski. “It’s the hallmark of the series – the camera angles and dramatic scenes and it’s really taking film-making to this new digital level,” he added.

Be that as it may, Bleszinski stated that as a gamer, he personally prefers shorter cutscenes. The designer also reiterated that long cutscenes are just not in the works for Gears of War 2.

“In the kind of games we do, the cut scenes are around three to four minutes on average,” he said. “It just says what needs to be said and moves on to letting you actually play the game.”
