Gran Turismo 5 is still quite a while away, good thing Polyphony Digital managed to work up something good as a reprieve. On December 17th, the Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Challenge will be available for download at the PlayStation Store, get it quick ’cause you’ll need to get a lot of practice to get yourself ready for the challenge later the following month.

The challenge will commence on January 25th, 5PM PST, and the downloadable challenge will be taken down. As the event name implies, this is all about time trial. You ‘ll be using two versions of the Nissan 350z – a stock one and a souped-up one. It’s simple, the one with the best combined time for both cars wins.

Winner gets round trip airfare and accommodations for two (for the winner and a guest) to catch the Indy 500 on May 30th, 2010. They’re gonna get a VIP package which includes two all-access passes for Carb Day. This basically lets the winner and his friend into the final Indy 500 practice, the pit stop competition, some special concert festivities, and special event car rides in the 2010 Indy 500 event vehicle.

Nope, that ain’t all – they’ll also be given all-access passes to the garage, pit area, and Victory Lane for the pre- and post-race festivities. To top it all off, they get to watch the Indy 500 on VIP suites. Rawrrr.

Contest is open only to US and Canada residents, ages 18 and above. There will be separate contests for each country, so there will be one winner each. Five runner-ups from each country will also win a voucher to download Gran Turismo PSP.
