Command & Conquer For DS Project: Latest WIP Report

You’re probably wondering how cncds_project is doing with his recreation of Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn for the Nintendo DS. Well, he’s been regularly updating his blog to fill us in on the recent developments of the project. And by the looks of it, there has been substantial progress since we last posted his WIP report.

At this point, the key navigation of the menus is now working by using a base class for the Graphical User Interface (GUI) components. The developer still has to “tie in a callback with the list component so it can actually trigger the loading of the map in the list.”

In the screens below, you’ll see the Command & Conquer list control with the available maps to play. A button is highlighted to show what’s been selected. The artwork might get your attention momentarily, but be reminded that it’s just a placeholder artwork. The third screen shows a slightly better map file.

Some people may not realize the amount of work needed to recreate the immensely popular PC real-time strategy game for the Nintendo handheld, so our hat is off to this guy who is ready to complete this ambitious (but doable) undertaking. We’re pretty sure loyal fans of the Command & Conquer series can’t wait to get their hands on the final version.
