Cubed3 interviews Opera on the Upcoming Wii Browser

Opearcube

One of the greatest mysterious revolving around the Nintendo Wii happens to be the internet capabilities and features of the Wii. We know very little about the Wii, but the Opera web browser is something that is slowly being uncovered with time. There have been several interviews with Opera on their web browser, and a new one was just published. Cubed3 got the chance to interview the executive vice president in Opera, and got numerous questions answered.

The Opera web browser will be packaged with the Nintendo Wii on launch, and the data from the browser will be saved onto the internal flash ROM of the Wii. There will be no need to purchase a SD memory card to store data from Opera, it will all be saved on the Nintendo Wii, unlike the NDS’s Opera browser. One of the most important things to note is that this Opera version will be exclusive for the Nintendo Wii, fully configured to conform to the console’s design. Scott says that it would be “great” to have the Wii and the NDS Operas communicate with each other, but has noted that Nintendo does not have any plans for this at the moment. The functionality and plug-ins has been stated to “support all the same web standards that are included in Opera for PCs and Macs.

When asked about customization in Wii’s Opera, Scott could not comment officially on the question, but provided the statement that Opera’s PC browsers are very customizable. There has been a lot that Scott has been unable to comment on due to the NDA (Non-disclosure Agreement) with Nintendo. Read the full interview via the Read link below.
