Currency Of The Brave: Age of Conan’s Blood Coins

This week, we have been allowed to have a small sneak peak into the PvP system of Funcom‘s upcoming MMORPG  Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. So, if you’re the type who just gets a kick out of PVP combat, then listen up since there are some important things that you would first need to know about before jumping into that arena.

First of all, Age of Conan has started using the currency known as Blood Coins. Basically, Blood Coins are the currency of combat in the Border Kingdoms and are tokens that are taken from the dying corpses of your fallen enemies. Upon entering the Border Kingdoms, your toll which you paid for in normal coin, will be converted into Blood Coins. Now this is where the fun begins when one realizes that everyone in the area has Blood Coins on them and are ripe for the picking. When one defeats another, it will be possible to take all or some of the Blood Coins that they have earned from previous fights. And have I mentioned that Blood Coins can’t be safely stored away prior to a fight?

Now what makes Blood Coins so special? These things aren’t just tokens or counters for your victories, but for one thing, this morbid currency can be traded with some vendors who will offer you various black market goods. Take note that these rare things may only be bought with Blood Coins, therefore making normal coins useless. The Blood Coin system also encourages PVP combat since it earns your character separate PCP exp that goes towards earning twenty PVP levels and gaining access to special feats and abilities that are exclusive to PVP.

There’s one thing to remember though. After your killing spree and after all the Blood Coins that you have earned, take note that you will also gain notoriety. The better you are at taking others out, the bigger the reward will be on your head. But then again, we’re sure that there are others out there who won’t mind this one bit and wear it as a badge of honor…
