Dante’s Inferno viral marketing infects source codes of popular websites

EA’s marketing stunts for Dante’s Inferno have mostly been not-so-classy. It seems their marketing team has gone for a more low-key and decidedly geekier approach to hyping up the game with the latest one, though. They’ve gone and added Dante’s Inferno-related ASCII images in the source codes for some of the most popular sites on the web.

It seems their marketing team has gone for a more low-key and decidedly geekier approach to hyping up the game with the latest one, though. They’ve gone and added Dante’s Inferno-related ASCII images in the source codes for some of the most popular sites on the web.

 

Counted among the websites whose front page source codes were altered are Digg, GameSpot, Kotaku, IGN, GamesRadar, WWE, and DailyMotion. There are six images in total, but they all point people to www.hellisnigh.com and come with a different password. The one in the pic to the right, found on both Kotaku and GameSpot, has the third password, “grafter”.

 

Entering all six passwords will let you download a pack containing eight hi-res wallpapers, five posters showing the different circles of Hell, all six ASCII art images, a concept art book in PDF format, and three songs.

 

Those who plan on finding the passwords for themselves can check out the front pages for the websites listed above and hit “view source” on your browser’s View menu. Firefox users can just hit ctrl+U. You’ll find them after a bit of scrolling. Make sure to turn word wrap off, however. Those who just want to get all the passwords immediately can see them at the source below.
