DOA’s Itagaki charged with sexual harassment

tomonobuitagakiSo…this must be what bikini-clad virtual babes and bouncing-boobies-themed games do to their creators. Tsk tsk.

While sexual harassment IS a serious matter and it’s definitely not the least bit funny to the victim, a lot of people were able to laugh about this news bit and said that they weren’t surprised at all.

But okay, before we get into the humor bit, let’s get to the facts first. ZAKZAK, a Japanese entertainment news site, reported that Tomonobu Itagaki, the father of the Dead or Alive series himself, was recently charged with sexual harassment by a co-employee at Tecmo and is now being asked to pay the compensation amount of Â¥ 10 million.

The plaintiff said that the acts of sexual harassment started three years ago, when she and Itagaki were in a cab after meeting with managers from an IT company. Itagaki allegedly admitted to the woman his fondness of her and then forcibly kissed her. And apparently, Itagaki didn’t stop there. There were more forced kisses and hugs, including another similar circumstance during E3 last year.

When the woman complained to the Tecmo management, she was told to “Do something about it” herself, so she talked to the firm’s Human Resources head and the result of internal investigation was that the “forced kisses” were a show of “mutual affection”. However, Tecmo did acknowledge that Itagaki’s actions were inappropriate and snatched the Managing Executive Officer title from Itagaki and demoted him. The woman wasn’t satisfied with the company’s actions – not long after, she resigned.

When the media heard of the news, a member of Tecmo’s management apparently contacted Evening Fuji, which is ZAKZAK’s sister-publication, and told them that “there was a difference of opinions, and it will be cleared up in the trial.”

No offense to Itagaki, and most especially to the unfortunate victim of his lewdness, but c’mon, are we the only ones who see the humor in this news bit? What happened wasn’t funny (that we all know), but it’s funny because it’s Itagaki that’s involved. Some of the commenters at 1up are even asking if this whole fiasco will be turned into a DOA minigame. Hahaha. Dead or Alive Xtreme Kissing, anyone???
