Sony PlayStation Portable handheld - Image 1Those of you who want to try out some old-school DOS games on the PlayStation Portable, might do well to download the latest build of CrazyC‘s homebrew DOS emulator, DosBox PSP. The latest build is tagged as version 03/08/08 and fixes some errors which tend to pop up when running it under the 3.xx kernel.

In an effort to lessen its bugs, the developer cleaned up the emulator’s binary code in the new build to help fix the kernel issue previously noted by Murdock on the ps2dev forums.

Here is a direct quote taken from the developer’s release thread explaining the new changes made in the latest version of DosBox PSP:

I put up a new binary with probably fixes it. Dosbox was checking for 0 as open(3) failure rather then the correct -1. Also, I added modifier support to imagemap. Put a,s or c after the key to and alt, shift or ctrl to the keypress; as for alt and shift, sca for shift, ctrl and alt etc… (actually this is untested, tell me if it doesn’t work).

We’ve compiled all the necessary files needed to run the emulator into one file bundle, which you can download through the link below. If you have any questions regarding DosBox, you can visit the developer’s project release thread and leave your feedback there.
