For Dragon Quest IX, it was through its “Chance Encounter” feature, which lets people share game data with other players that they run into via Nintendo WiFi on the DS. With 4.26 million sold in Japan alone, there are pretty good odds for that to happen. How good? Well, there were 117,577,073 Chance Encounters from the game’s July 2009 release to March 4, 2010.

That nine-digit number qualifies Chance Encounter as the “most popular ad hoc wireless game feature”. The same feature will come to the North American and European versions in July, renamed as “Tag Mode”.
