Dragoneer’s Aria: new trailer video and system info

For those of us keeping tabs on Nippon Ichi‘s latest RPG for the PlayStation Portable, Dragoneer’s Aria, here’s some new info about the battle system – specifically, about Mana and Energy – as well as a very sweet-looking trailer with a very poignant choice in soundtrack. We give you the skinny on what’s new with the RPG that’s all about dragons and androgynous male protagonists.

First up, Mana and Energy. RPG players will recognize mana as the catch – all term for the resources you use to cast magic – and it’s no different here, but with a few extra twists. Mana is quantified into energy points, with 1 Mana point equal to 1000 energy points. While there’s a cap to how much Mana you can store – only up to 10 – regaining it is pretty easy, so the chances of you running out of the good stuff is slim.

To regain energy points – remember that 1000 of these points constitute as 1 mana point – there are four things you can do. First is landing a successful attack on an enemy. It doesn’t matter if you weren’t able to inflict that much damage. As long as you connected, you’re guaranteed 50 points for every hit. A critical hit, however, would get you 80 points. Awesome.

Second is guarding. Successfully guarding a blow gets you 100 points. It’s a bit risky, yes, but with the huge payoff, it’s certainly worth trying your luck. Third is using a Crystal item. Just like Ethers, they give you a set amount of mana points when they’re used. Fourth but definitely not least, touching a mana point in the field map. They’re quite hard to miss, as they’re shown as glowing green circles on the ground. Touching them gets you 300 points easy.

As for the video, well, we’ll leave you to it. It’s something to be watched, as it reveals quite a lot about the characters you’ll meet along the way, as well as the game’s many features. You can watch it in full by clicking on the read link below.
