DualJack Ushers Set-Tops, Fax Machines Into Wireless 21st Century
What appears to be a setback with some older models of TiVos and other set-top boxes, as well as traditional phones and fax machines is the need for connections to a wired phone jack. Hence, the idea for a wired-to-wireless telephone extender jack was put together by RTX.
The DualJack promises to dispose of the need to string copper telephone wire throughout the home or add additional jacks just to be able to enjoy your home appliances. Including a remote receiver and base station, the DualJack performs much like a cordless phone, using a 2.4 GHz digital radio link between the base station and the extender. With ranges of about 150 feet indoors and 1,000 feet outdoors, up to four remote units can be supported via the same base station. It also carries standard telephone functions such as three-way calling, caller ID, conference calling and intercom functions. Basic security is ensured with the Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT), which maintains privacy.
