E3 – Game Over, but…

but there’s more to come from QJ’s coverage of E3, lots more. Chris G. and I have been soaking up all the info we could this week, and we’re sifting through press kits and portfolio CD’s to bring you all the direct feed video, crystal clear screens and of course detailed hands on impressions on every single game we were able to get some one on one time with.

A far more in depth list is just around the corner, but here are some of the titles that impressed me at this year’s E3 and why:

Star Trek: Tactical Assault: I’m a huge Star Trek fan, so when I heard Bethesda was working on a Star Trek game for my favorite handheld I was more than a little excited. The screenshots finally came and I must admit I was a little underwhelmed, put simply, they looked naff. But today, on the final day of E3 I managed to get my hands on a more recent build of the game and I must say it’s coming along swimmingly. It’s rocketed to the top of my PSP “most wanted” list, to find out why you’ll just have to keep checking back for my hands on impressions.

The Witcher: I have a bone to pick with RPG’s, but that’s a topic for a different time. Suffice to say that The Witcher looks to breathe some much needed life into the genre with a complex story that marries beautiful visuals and a simple but richly layered combat engine to really create an immersive world.

Gears of War: Well color me surprised, and here I thought Epic was a one trick pony. I went in expecting an over the shoulder version of Unreal, and came out badly wanting, no needing this game.

Warhawk: Put simply, this game’s fun, tons of fun. For more detail, you might want to have a gander at my hands on impressions.

Elveon: Despite the fact that this game is still very early in development, it was easily one of the most graphically impressive games at the show. Thankfully this babe’s got both style and substance, check back for more detailed impressions.

Motorstorm: Sure it doesn’t look as sharp as the CG trailer we saw last year, but the build we played was only 50% complete and it definitely looked to be getting there. The gameplay was definitely intact and can only be described as absolute… physical… mayhem… utterly mad. Excite Bike+Rally Cross = Motorstorm.

There are probably a good number I’m forgetting, but it’s late and I have to be up at the ker-pow of dawn tomorrow to catch my flight back Caprica City. E3’s over and my biggest regrets are that I wasn’t able to get any hands on time with the Wii (or the Conan booth babes, rrowwr!). This Chris Coker for QJ.net, signing out from L.A. (always wanted to say that!)
