The ginormous success of the music games Rock Band (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) and Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock have driven up digital music sales of their in-game tracks as well as the albums of the artists.

Rock Band saw a 2.5 million downloads of its in-game tracks through the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live while Guitar Hero 3 saw 5 million downloads since it added downloadable content last November.

But why should distributors stop with just the tracks from their music games? Electronic Arts, for instance, has a bunch of games and franchises with excellent tracks such as FIFA and Madden.

There is a chance we might see this happen. Steve Schnur, worldwide head of music for Electronic Arts, commented at the Consumer Electronics Show that the idea of downloadable tracks for their other franchises is “certainly something we’re interested in.”

Other games like The Orange Box and Gears of War have already released albums for their soundtracks. It would be sweet if EA decides to offer digital downloads for their in-game tracks from their franchises.
