EA steps in to publish Mercenaries 2

Mercenaries 2 - World in Flames - Image 1Activision, the publisher of the first Mercenaries, wasn’t going to publish Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. For quite a while, the game was under steady, improving development but without a publisher in sight. The sand-box destruction game rumored to be coming out for both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 was thought to come out only by the good graces of Pandemic.

When Pandemic joined forces with BioWare last year, fans of the visually stunning game were almost certain the title would be self-published. While Pandemic/BioWare were hard at work to make Mercenaries 2 a next-gen console power grabber, they only managed to use a fraction of the consoles’ potentials.

This sparked concern as they would be doubling efforts to make use of each console’s full potential, just as they promised and forget that there was no one to distribute the game. But in the first day of February 2006, the duo Pandemic/BioWare struck gold by striking a deal with Half-life 2 publisher Electronic Arts to sell, distribute, and market the sequel with confidence.

This is very good news, as EA is one of many giants to consider different marketing strategies to make games more affordable and accessible everywhere. Now truly, Mercenaries 2 has a bright future ahead of it.
