Earthworm Jim To Crawl Into Next-Gen Consoles?

Once upon a time, before Sponge Bob Squarepants, there was another wacky creature that crawled among us. His name, Earthworm Jim .Jim started out like any other earthcritter whose career choices were limited to avian protein source, fish bait, and gardeners’ bestfriend.  Until he came upon “an ultra-high-tech indestructible super space-cyber-suit” built by a certain Professor Monkey-For-A-Head.  The designer suit had been commissioned by the evil Queen Pulsating, Bloated, Festering, Sweaty, Pus-filled, Malformed, Slug-for-a-Butt for the sole purpose of conquering the galaxy.  A band of rebels stole the suit and lost it in a fight with Psy-Crow, one of the Slug Queen’s generals. The suit landed on Jim causing him to mutate into a wildly popular video game superhero.

The game has several levels that take Jim through deadly junkyards, the large intestines, an asteroid belt, bungee jumping showdown and many more (depending on game version). The final level of the game takes place in Buttville where Jim must  use his rotating head/helicopter to safely float down to the bottom of the level without hitting the spike-lined walls.

Shiny Entertainment re-confirmed the return of the popular video-game series Earthworm Jim.  “The next Earthworm Jim is currently in development and is certainly coming back,” the company said. “It had been known for a while around the people at Atari, but it’s certainly coming out.”  They did not indicate the specific platform for the game’s return.

Earthworm Jim was released in 1994 on several platforms (Sega Genesis, Sony Playstation and Game Boy Advance). The success of the original spawned the three sequels Earthworm Jim 2 (1995), Earthworm Jim 3D (1999) and Earthworm Jim Menace 2 the Galaxy (also 1999).
