EA’s Q2 profits tumble by 57%

Electronic Arts, the world’s biggest video game publisher, reported its second quarter net earnings went skydiving without a parachute and fell a full 57%. Last year, the company earned US$51 million over the same period. This year’s Q2: US$22 million.

Ironically, EA’s revenues went up by 16% to US$784 million over last year’s total of $675 million. The company credited its hot sellers for bringing in the cash, among them Madden NFL 07, NCAA Football 07, FIFA 07 and its other sports title. The company also reported its NCAA Football 07 sold all-time high of 2 million copies in the said quarter.

EA isn’t crying all the way to the bank, though. They predict revenues between US$1.2 billion and US$1.3 billion by March 31, 2007.
