Edwards: No cosplaying in PS3 Home
Home, Sony‘s online virtual community for the PS3, will apparently strictly be a t-shirt and jeans affair. In a recent interview with the Official PlayStation Magazine, Home Executive Producer Peter Edwards revealed that having non-human and other fantastical avatars “is not the Home ethic”.
“If everyone’s walking around dressed as Orcs or stormtroopers or whatever, then you lose that welcoming, accessible element that means Mum, Dad, and your sister might get involved as well,” said Edwards. “The idea is to keep it as accessible, mainstream, and friendly as possible.”
That effectively rules out any kind of cosplaying by Home users. Personally, this blogger thinks this could lead to some backlash about censorship and the freedom to express one’s individuality, but then there are other ways to express yourself apart from dressing up as a balding red ape with a necktie.
