Euro PS3 has amped specs, new vision

PS3 euro - Image 1Fans awaiting the release of the Playstation 3 game console in Europe, Australia, the Middle East and Africa will have to wait until March 23 to get their machines, but Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) says that the PS3 Euro will come with a few twists.

PS3 Europe is different from its Japanese and American counterparts in the sense that this one has sacrificed backwards compatibility to PlayStation 2 games for the sake of improving the console’s performance for today’s games.

In his statement SCEE President David Reeves said the “PS3 is first and foremost a system that excels in playing games specifically designed to exploit the power and potential of the PS3 system.”

He added  that “games designed for PS3 offer incredible graphics quality, stunning gameplay and massively improved audio and video fidelity that is simply not achievable with PS and PS2 games. Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, truly taking advantage of this exciting technology.”

The Euro version is more suited than ever to online play as it flaunts the Cell Broadband Engine, 60 GB hard disc drive, Blu-ray Disc player, built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, SIXAXIS wireless controllers and the rest of the original hardware. According to Sony, the new model is a testament to their new commitment of bringing a better gaming experience to fans.

This, however, doesn’t mean that PS2 games are totally eliminated from running in Sony’s next-gen console. Some of the old one’s titles will be supported via regular downloading of firmware from the official PlayStation site. You can also check for the compatibility of your PS2 titles through http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc starting on the release date.
