The latest issue of Famitsu Wave was recently released in Japan with a DVD containing a lot of new info on Square Enix‘s upcoming PlayStation 3 and PC MMO, Final Fantasy XIV. Here are some of the interesting tidbits.

Final Fantasy XIV will not have a leveling system and, consequently, no experience points. Wow. Big surprise right off the bat. Square Enix wants the new system to let players try out any quest and to make character growth more enjoyable by throwing in a tightly-knit story complete with cutscenes.

There will still be jobs, but they’re expanding upon the basic system. Weapons will also be of a greater focus, as they determine how players play, grow, and fight. So maybe a Job Point system instead of actual XP? Never player FFXI myself, but weapons have been used as a way to acquire skills in previous Final Fantasy titles.

Teaming up with friends and forming parties are supported, of course, but solo players will also not be left out of the loop. Large scale battles are also in consideration, but regular battles will be against single enemies.

To learn more about Final Fantasy XIV, check out the video below. It’s from an E3 2009 interview with director Nobuaki Komoto and producer Hiromichi Tanaka conducted by members of the Japanese press. Don’t worry, it’s subtitled.
