Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift for the PSP by Namco Bandai Games America and Electronic Arts is looking really sweet. In a previous article, we covered a lot of the technical features of this game. New details have been released about the modes of play. The PSP it seems has more features than the PS2 version.

A minor change that has a major impact on the gameplay is the fact that you can change the oil on your car. Doing this can actually improve the performance of your car. Another innovation in the game is the Swap Meet. You access this by connecting to another player’s PSP via ad-hoc connection. This will give you the opportunity to swap skins, vinyls, or even entire cars with the other player.

How does the swapping work? You can’t just go and take his stuff without him wanting to give it to you. You’ll have to tag the stuff you want, and if he’s cool with giving that, he’ll approve it. Oh, and did we mention that the guy just sends you a copy of it? If someone decides to share some of his stuff, he still gets to keep it. Only a copy of the item tagged will be sent. The developers did this so people wouldn’t feel bad about trading the stuff they’ve worked on.

Multiplayer has two brand new modes, Road Sweeper and Tag Run. Road sweeper is like a normal drift race where players try to score the most drift points. The difference is that players will be competing for corners. The competitor with the highest points in a corner wins. The racer with the most corners won wins the race. Tag Run is a relay race. The first car runs a straight course and heads back to the starting line. His partner proceeds to do the same thing. The interesting thing is, you can actually interfere with your opponents while doing this. (i.e. play chicken with a competitor who’s partner reached the starting line before you did, just like in the movie!).
