Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions will finally be out in Europe this October. If you’ve been keeping up, you probably already know that this is an update of Final Fantasy Tactics which was released on the original PlayStation (PSOne).

To avoid any spoilers, here’s a simple rundown of the story. It revolves around two characters: Duke Goltanna who fights under the banner of the Black Lion and Duke Larg who battles under the White Lion. There’s a lot of civil strife in the land of Ivalice, and the impending clash of these two great generals is about to begin.

The storyline looks pretty solid, but as most gamers know, there’s more to the game than just that. Veterans of the Tactics series may be pleased to find that certain changes have been implemented to improve gameplay and deliver a better overall experience as compared to previous iterations in the series.

Here are some of the most notable ones:

  • Final Fantasy turns tactical. Experience strategic, turn-based combat on 3D battlefields brought to life with breathtaking art and stunning visual effects
  • Customize your characters with 22 jobs and over 400 abilities to choose from, the tactical options open to you in combat are nearly endless
  • Uncover secret truths hidden within a gripping tale of intrigue, betrayal, heresy, love, and heroism
  • Recruit legendary Square Enix characters to your party, including Balthier from Final Fantasy XII and Cloud from Final Fantasy VII
  • Watch key scenes unfold through gorgeous, cutting-edge animation
  • Immerse yourself in a captivating audio score from Hitoshi Sakimoto the composer of Final Fantasy XII.
  • Fight against your friends in wireless melee, or team up with them for co-op missions

If you’re a fan of Final Fantasy, turn-based tactical games or both, be sure to keep checking your local game stores this October when it comes out. More updates on this game as they happen.
