GameTrailers sensationalized Jaffe’s Blu-Ray statements?

For the past few days now, the whole of gaming community has been talking about David Jaffe‘s opinion on Sony’s PlayStation 3 (PS3). So far, what has happened was gaming site GameTrailers released a snippet of its interview with the developer. Jaffe was quoted saying, “I probably would have taken the Blu-ray out and sold it for less money.”

David Jaffe's statements sensationalized? - Image 1Sony, on the other hand, didn’t take offense on this and mentioned that Jaffe’s stature has earned him the right to speak his mind on anything he wants when it comes to video games. All good now? Well, not really because it seems now that the whole interview is being sensationalized.

Like we’ve said, the released video interview was just a snippet of a longer segment. Another gaming site, GamePro, claims that one of its sources managed to get hold of the whole interview and learned that David Jaffe’s statement was taken out of context. GamePro said,

It looks like GameTrailers is trying to sensationalize this by only using a snippet of the interview which is due to air in an upcoming segment. Jaffe actually answers that question by saying he thinks the PS3 is perfect the way it is but in his personal opinion he would have removed Blu-ray to make it cheaper. He goes on to say that Sony is smarter than him when it comes to this stuff.

Honestly now, it doesn’t really matter if  David Jaffe has uttered the previously “altered statements” or not. After all Sony has said that it’s his opinion and he is entitled to that. The problem now lies with some video gaming site sensationalizing things to boost, what, ratings? Page views? Revenues?

While we understand the whole bit about earning money, twisting stories just to make them bigger than they actually are is just not cool.
