GDC : Playstation 3 Tech Demos

Sony spent alot of time at the Game Developers Conference showing off technology demos for the Playstation 3 console. Some have been shown prior at last years E3, but this is the first time the tech demos were live with awestruck fans able to interact with them.

Starting us off is the Duck Demo, which just happens to be Phil Harrions’s favorite. This tech demo was available for viewing at E3 but now gamers were actually able to test out the controls. The Unreal Engine 3 Demo which was also just a tech demo and not the majority of the game. In the confined environment gamers were able to shoot objects and test out the rag doll physics. Perhaps just a glimpse at what Unreal Tournament 2007 may have to offer.

On another, not as exciting note, the Performance Analysis Tools shows off some analysis tools for the Playstation 3. From the looks of things games still be looking at “statistics”. Gamers were said to have seen “a floating face against a sky background. Next!” A Fish Demo was the next tech demo in line, this underwater demo allows gamers to control the camera as thousands of fish swim around. Quite an impressive and immersive world was created by Sony and made even more believable with razor sharp sun and water reflections.
