In case you’re not familiar with the program, GenPlus is a Sega Genesis Emulator for the Nintendo Wii and GameCube. This latest version has several new updates, with a large emphasis on added controller support (it now supports up to 8 players!). A new build is out for the Genesis Plus Project for the Wii, courtesy of Wii homebrew developer Eke-Eke. In case you are not familiar with the the project (also known as GenPlus), this is a Sega Genesis Emulator for both the Wii and the GameCube, a port of the Genesis Plus emulator from Charles MacDonald.

There are several great new updates in this build, but probably the biggest update is added support for controllers. The program now supports up to 8 players, and each player can use a different controller device, such as a GameCube pad or a Wiimote. There is also now added support for horizontal Wiimote handling in the menu.

Note though, that some expansion controllers (the Nunchuk or Classic) sometimes aren’t detected. The dev advises to disconnect and then reconnect it to the Wiimote. Be sure to read the documentation included in the download for more information about the program, including installation, controls, and file management. Here’s the changelog:

  • improved display sharpness in original rendering mode (H40 cell mode only), filtering is now completely disabled
  • enabled overscan emulation in “STRETCH” aspect mode also
  • added support for horizontal wiimote handling in Menu (automatically used when the wiimote is not pointed towards the screen)
  • improved Controller options
  • prevented keys reconfiguration if device is not detected
  • added support for up to 8 players (ISS Pro Deluxe, …)
  • each player can be affected to a custom device (GAMECUBE Pad, WIIMOTE/NUNCHUK or CLASSIC)
  • added the ability to use classic controller & wiimote pad from the same port separately
  • modified “soft-reset” key on the Wiimote to avoid “accidental” resets (now press Buttons + & simultaneously)
  • added MODE button mapping: use “START+Z” on gamepad or “Button Minus” on wiimote/classic (not reconfigurable)
  • added automatic configuration save for controller options
