Ghosts on Earth and in Space

We hear of ghosts appearing in doorways of old houses and in graveyards. WeÂ’ve even gone as far as creating haunted houses where our drive for a little adrenaline is satisfied. These phenomenons are often unexplainable and sometimes unpredictable.

Space also holds some ghostly images, one of which is in the form of the Skull Nebula. This nebula floats about 1600 light years from the Earth in the constellation Cetus, the Sea Monster.

These ghostly images develop when stars that are 8 times larger than our sun begin to die. They become huge red masses and eventually shed off half of their mass in gas and dust. Hence, the ghostly impressions are left behind, often referred to as White Dwarfs. The nebula travels at an amazing 80 kilometres per second through space.
