GoW Emergence eve interview with Cliff Bleszinski

when the night has come and the land is dark... DARLING DARLING STAND BY ME OH STAND BY ME

I know this gay guy who plans to come out of the closet… he wants to do it on “Emergence Day”. Seriously. Everybody’s talking about Gears of War now that the dawn of Emergence Day is so close.

We’ll go straight to the highlights of the November 6 CliffyB interview with CVG. Some of this is old, but each time they repeat something, that just makes it more certain that they really are planning it! In other words, it’s a relief to learn that some things aren’t just pre-release hype. So it’s still news.

Downloadable content. “We’ve got some goodies in the queue for downloadable content but we’re not quite spilling the beans at this time. Everyone will have to wait and see!”

The interview in fast forward. Here’s what Cliff Bleszinski, lead game designer of Epic Games, had to say.

  1. It’s been a lot of hard work. We’re happy. We want a vacation.
  2. Multiplayer is amazing.
  3. CliffyB beat up the programmers until they got the responsiveness right.
  4. It was hard to incorporate co-op but we had extra programmers and adding Dominic made GoW better.
  5. It’s “nearly the exact game” they had in the initial “greenlight” presentation – in other words, they worked real hard to make their vision a reality.
  6. The Unreal 3 game engine makes it possible “to make a next generation game with a reasonable budget in a feasible timeframe.”
  7. They intended it to be bloody. It’s meant for adults. No need to hold anything back.
  8. Two tons of chicken curry.

Sequel. “I wouldn’t rule anything out.” We’re guessing that means if the game does really well, then they’re going to push for a sequel.
