Perhaps one of the biggest titles launching last October was Guitar Hero World Tour (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii) and yet somehow they didn’t make the NPD group‘s top 10 last month. As the title of this article so succinctly puts it: WHY?!

Was it the problematic peripherals? The bleed-my-wallet-dry price point? The gods of rock finally striking down Guitar Hero for gross commercialism?

“Initial launch quantities were limited due to early supply constraints,” said Activision on this matter.

They further explained that the numbers were misleading. While they did not score first place on any single console, they claim that if one were to combine sales across all platforms, they would be the second best selling game out there. If one factors in the US$ 190 price tag, they’re easily the number one money making game as well.

I suppose if we’re making excuses for Activision, we should also note that Guitar Hero: World Tour launched during the final week of October so they didn’t have time to really bolster their numbers. Still, Guitar Hero 3 launched a day later last year yet they still managed to claim four of the top ten spots on the NPD charts for that month.
