At some point in our lives, we’ve all had a Wild West phase. That’s a given considering the number of shows, movies, and other movies with cowboy themes. Well, if you’re one of those people who were in that phase for too long, you might be familiar with the gunslinger Lucky Luke. If you aren’t, you’ll be acquainted soon enough through the upcoming PC, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS video game called Lucky Luke: Go West!

Lucky Luke was originally a Franco-Belgian comics created by Maurice de Bevere. It’s set in the American Wild West and sports a curious tagline, “Lucky Luke, quicker than his own shadow.” Anyway, the old legend is about to be resurrected via an animated feature film called Go West! slated for release this December in France and other European territories. Of course, the film will get the video game treatment courtesy of Atari and Xilam.

Atari’s Mathias Hautefort, Executive Vice President of publishing and production had this to say about the project:

Following the great success Infogrames has enjoyed with the Lucky Luke license in the past, we are extremely pleased to be working with licensor Lucky Comics and film producer Xilam on a brand new Lucky Luke product. We are already working closely with them to ensure that this title delivers everything consumers expect from the license, and a high quality game.

According to the game developers, Lucky Luke: Go West! was inspired by the comics’ The Caravan issue which features Lucky Luke on an escort mission. He’s tasked to “accompany” the notorious Dalton brothers to New York for their trial. The baddies manage to escape and wreak havoc, and of course, the hero has to tail them to arrest them again. Along the adventure, we’ll meet several characters

Lucky Luke: Go West! will be featuring several characters from the comic book series, some of them playable (Lucky Luke and the Dalton brothers included). It also boasts of mini games and to practice your quick draw, steering… and music and dancing skills.

Anyway, Lucky Luke: Go West! was developed by Tate Interactive for the Nintendo Wii and PC while Neko handled the Nintendo DS version. This wild wild west adventure will be invading Europe this autumn, right before the feature film opens.
