Halo 3 Beta sign-up a huge success (no duh.)

Halo 3

As reported earlier, Microsoft launched the new Halo 3 trailer last week on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. At the same time, they also officially opened the game’s official website, halo3.com, where gazillions of gamers signed up for a chance to be part of the Halo 3 beta next spring.

Today, IGN reports shocking news, shocking indeed! Would you believe that more than 140,000 people signed up for the North American beta within the first 24 hours?! Wha’? Who would’ve anticipated THAT, right? In fact, halo3.com was so bogged down with so many people logging in that some had problems getting to the site because the sign-up page wouldn’t load anymore. Holy guacamole!

Seriously though, this isn’t surprising at all, considering the game’s popularity. Heck, even here in QJ quarters, just the mention of any of these three words- Master, Chief, Halo – is enough to perk anyone’s ears up, as if they’ve just been electrically injected with a massive dose of caffeine.

So anyway, just in case you didn’t know, beta registration is still open. All you’ll need to participate are the following: an Xbox 360 with hard drive, an Xbox Live Gold account and a Microsoft.NET Passport account linked to your gamertag. Because of the reported issues with the site’s loading times, Microsoft and Bungie are reportedly planning on having other methods to sign up for the beta but none have been announced so far. We will keep you posted so stay tuned.
