Harmonix: Rock Band solo instruments to become available ASAP

For those of us eagerly anticipating the release of Harmonix‘s Rock Band for the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360, but don’t care too much for the US$ 169 price tag of the complete bundle (the game itself and the four instrument controllers), then here’s some very good news. Not only will the game itself be available for a title-only purchase, but you’ll also be able to purchase each instrument peripheral separately.

This news comes directly from an interview with Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos. He assures that even though the complete bundle is the first Rock Band package available for purchase upon launch, gamers won’t have to wait long for the individual instrument bundles to be churned out. His statement, verbatim:

We are working diligently to get individual instruments into the channel as soon as humanly possible and we have a huge effort in place to make this happen.

Harmonix supports open platform standards in our game design, so people will most likely be able to use their existing peripherals with Rock Band. Furthermore, we know that many, many friends are planning to purchase a Rock Band bundle together, along with extra copies of the software, and then share the individual instruments among them.

While it’s certainly good news that Harmonix is working hard into making sure that players on a budget will be able to purchase separate peripherals for Rock Band, it’s also great that the game will be playable with older guitar controllers. Can you say “bang for your buck”? Yeah, we thought so.
