The ultrapopular PS2 game Harukanaru Toki no Naka de is now available on the DS with Harukanaru Toki no Naka De Mai Ichi Yoru! Developed by Koei, this game of love, struggle, and friendship has been a favorite of female gamers in Japan. It has even spawned a manga and an anime series. Now that it’s coming on the DS, what does Haruka (as what it’s affectionately called in Japan) have to offer us?

The story of Haruka is still the same. You are still Akane Motomiya who mysteriously enters this unknown ancient world with your friends. It turns out that in that particular world, you are actually a goddess that have been sent down to them. 8 men then protect you with their lives as you try to help them resolve issues in their land. Along with this is godly task is a duty to find love in these 8 men. It is Fushigi Yuugi repackaged, without the annoying love story that still irritates our ears ever so often.

The game is called a romance RPG because its not exactly a dating sim, nor is it an RPG either. However the game has a particular dating aspect to it. Your interaction with the 8 boys could vary their affections towards you. It is, as we best put it, a dating sim under the guise of an RPG. As the creators of Haruka have put it, these kinds of things are called NeoRomance. Hence, like dating sims, you will have scenarios with particular characters. In the DS release, there are 15 new scenarios that come out in the game. More so, you can also record these scenarios and watch them through the calendar theatre section.

Just to add a little more fanfare to the game, you can also use the game as your alarm clock wherein your favorite Haruka character can wake you up every morning. The popularity of the game is also due to the A-list Japanese voice actors in the game. Hence, if you love Japanese seiyuus such as Seki Tomokazu and Miki Shinichiro, this is a game to play. When you buy the game, a book will also be available for the game. It is set to be released at the end of this year.
