Has Sony Run Out of PS3 Test Kits?
As if all the negative publicity for the PS3 wasn’t enough already, there’s this latest piece of news. It appears that Sony has run out of test kits to give out to the game developers. Test kits, by the way, are special consoles which are used for development. They have a lot of debugging features to aid the developers.
Here’s a quote from Kotaku’s “mole”:“Sony has run out of PS3 test kits to give to developers. Since the announcement of the European launch being delayed, nobody has any idea what’s going to happen with the PS3 port of F.E.A.R… specially since we only have the one PS3. And it’s a devkit. In case you haven’t seen those things, they sound like giant vacuum cleaners. They’re reportedly ridiculously complicated to use, specially when upgrading the firmware. It has just the one controller, and it’s not even the proper PS3 one even! It doesn’t have those “innovative” changes from the PS3 controller, it’s just a Dual Shock 2 with a USB Mini port.”
Now first things first, we don’t know how much trust we should place on this “mole”, but the fact that he talks in detail about a devkit makes us feel that he isn’t lying. The way we see it, this would be nothing more than a hiccup. It’s quite foolish to think that a developer wouldn’t develop a game because they didn’t get more test kits. At the most, maybe a few delays for the game in question, but that would be it. Our suggestion to you guys: stay calm and wait for official word on this issue.
