Considering that the game was originally made for arcade, they were “made to pack in as much entertainment as possible in a short amount of time”. Having said this, Takeshita pointed out that bringing Ghosts ‘n Goblins to a portable system like the PSP was a decision they needed to make.

Capcom, the company which produces the PSP title, however does not have any plans (as of the moment) of making a Ghosts ‘n Goblins version for the Nintendo DS. This is due to the system’s screens’ vertical orientation.

What made Ghosts ‘n Goblins such a popular game was its balls-to-the walls hardcoreness. Takeshita assures that this element will still be present in the PSP game. “[Ghosts ‘N Goblins] was designed in an era where games were always difficult, where you just got a little bit farther each time, so this kind of challenge is definitely being revived,” he said. For those who never tried the game before and are hesitating to pick up Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins, here’s something that might do the trick for you: the PSP title is not all all-around hardcore – there will be several difficulty levels you can try if you’re just starting out. This does not mean, however, that it will be the same ol’ easy-normal-difficult mode. As the producer pointed out, “each mode still has their own unique challenges”.

Of course, aside from the game itself, it’s the music that made Ghosts ‘n Goblins such a popular hit. Although there are new people under the Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins thinking cap, the game’s director Tokurou Fujiwara made sure that things stay close to the original.

UGNGTakeshita reveals that of all the Ghosts ‘n Goblins game, he considers the very first one as his personal favorite. He reveals, “There were so many shooting games at the time, it was nice to see such an original action game; it was a real change of pace. And the way Arthur died was so cool!” Indeed, nothing beats the original. Let’s all hope that come fall, when Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins come out, it won’t disappoint.
