“Hold your wee for a Wii:” an audio excerpt

The wonders of YouTube has brought us an actual excerpt from the now-infamous “Hold your wee for a Wii” contest held by KDND-107.9. On the one hand, it’s a sobering reminder of how a lack of information can bring disaster to any seemingly harmless endeavor. On another, it also feels creepier when you’re listening to it in hindsight.

How so? Well, the opening minute of the audio clip has one host responding to the question,”Can’t you get water poisoning and die?” with, “Your body is 98% water. Why can’t you take in as much water as you want?” A few seconds later, this is followed by one of them saying, “Maybe we should have researched this.”

It follows with an actual warning from a listener about water intoxication, to which the hosts mention their inclusion of a waiver as part of joining the contests. Before the events of that day, we probably would have felt as aloof about the possibility of water intoxication and shrugged that comment aside. In hindsight, that same, short portion sounds far more ominous and carries a different connotation.

Would you have thought differently about this audio from a before and after standpoint? Like it or not, this whole definitely makes you think.
