How about an alt-tracking interface for WoW guilds?
When playing World of Warcraft (WoW), it’s kind of funny to think there’s a possibility the level 23 mage beside you is actually an alternative character of a level 70 warrior. So, for a lot of reasons we need not enumerate, it is handy – to the point of being important – for players to create alts.
However, this becomes a bit messy in relation to guilds especially when your main character and your alt belong to the same group. Take the above-mentioned example, we’re pretty sure that you find some comfort in knowing that the level 23 mage is in fact controlled by an experienced player who can help you when things get rough.
Besides, it is somewhat a sign of respect and trust for players to tell their guildmates about their alts. What do you then? Take note of each player’s characters and memorize them one by one? Sure, you will get the hang of it over time but what if you belong to a well-established guild with so many players?
Mike Schramm of online site WoWInsider proposes that an official interface be created for this very purpose. He explains,
If your alt is in the guild, your guild has a right to know the other guild members you play. And an official interface would make it easy. It would get entered automatically and be easily accessible for everyone. As long as we’re working on guild banks and other guild-friendly features, I’d like to see an alt-tracking interface.
What do you think of this idea? Well, it sounds okay to us. And about issues of privacy or secrecy, you can always create a new one and not enlist it to your guild.
