In an interview conducted by Wired, the man behind some of Sega’s more memorable titles such as Sega Rally Championship and Space Channel 5 talked about his upcoming title for the Xbox Live Arcade, Rez HD, something he describes as his “life’s work”.

Mizuguchi mentioned that there were many changes that he wanted to make in the next-gen version of Rez when it first came out on the Dreamcast. Because of the lack of high-definition wide screen formats before, a lot of the visuals in the original game looked jagged and did not come out very well.

Fortunately, his dream on reworking the game became a reality when he decided to create the Xbox 360 version of Rez, which featured a higher definition package with all the same trance shooter goodness that the game was known for.

He also thanked die hard fans of the game who helped keep it alive after all these years and gave him the inspiration to help him create the new version of Rez. As for getting the game on other consoles, he admitted that he was willing to look into it.

He ended the interview by mentioning his stand on the creation of Rez HD and the possibility of seeing more of it in the future. He explained this by saying:

I wanted to succeed with this kind of experience. I don’t know what kind of style, yet, but I brought this concept, the core, into Lumines two or three years ago. Also, I’m always defining a new chemistry or a new style. So I think this is like my life’s work.
