Defend Your Castle: an interview with Skye Boyes - Image 1 XGen StudiosDefend Your Castle is certainly one of the more intriguing games slated for WiiWare‘s American launch on May 12. To shed some more light on the release, XGen Studios CEO Skye Boyes gave IGN a quick interview, talking about some of the things Defend Your Castle has to offer gamers.

For one thing, XGen Studios remade the original game to add more functionality as a result of the transition from flash game to WiiWare game. These changes include “4-player cooperative gameplay, accelerometer use, particles, and lighting effects.”

Boyes notes that while the four-player co-op play is offline, it doesn’t detract from the fun of the gameplay:

With 4 players, the game gets absolutely manic by level 30, and you’ll really need to work as a team to push back the relentless hordes. We’ve included jump-in/ jump-out style gameplay with dynamic difficulty adjustment…. We’ve also added a competitive multiplayer element called “King of the Castle”. The player with the highest score at the end of the round is crowned king and bestowed the privilege of upgrading the castle, casting spells, and training units.

Skye Boyes also mentions that the game looks good in either 16:9 or 4:3 and supports Progressive Scan (480p), so gaming fanatics with a penchant for wanting the best visual quality won’t be disappointed.
