It still prints money: Nintendo posts record-breaking sales due to DS and Wii

and operating profits of Nintendo reports a consolidated fiscal year revenue of 966.5 billion yen226.0 billion yen for the year ending March 31, 2007, marking a 90% and 150% increase respectively, with both numbers record highs for the company itself.

Nintendo credits the success of both its ventures, the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii, for such high numbers.

The DS sold 23 million units this year alone, along with 123 million units of its games – while the Wii sold 5.48 million units and nearly 23 million games after less than five months since it was introduced.

For the future, the big N has this to predict: Beginning the new fiscal year at April 1, 2007, sales of 14 million Wii systems and 55 million games worldwide. For the DS and its games, sales of 22 million units for hardware and 130 million units for software. And let’s not forget the complete rundown: an expected increase of nearly 18 percent to 1.14 trillion yen, with operating profits to balloon nearly 20% to 270 billion yen.
