Thanks to GamesTM’s latest issue, we’ve finally got our hands on new pertinent details on Ubisoft‘s latest post-catastrophic Chicago title, I Am Alive. Unfortunately for you admirers, though, the rumored bit that Jade Raymond will be working on it isn’t true.

Working instead in place of Raymond as producer is, in fact, Alexis Goddard. More importantly, he provides further insight as to what the game really is all about.

Disaster has been a recurring theme for entertainment since the beginning of time. We’re not really reinventing that here. We’re putting it together for the first time in a totally new package. Most of what we’re doing will remind you of tidbits that you’ve seen or heard here and there — Robert Nevile in “I Am Legend” gradually starts to lose his humanity and sanity in the ruins of New York. In “The Day After Tomorrow” and “War of the Worlds” you see Western cities torn apart by unrelenting forces.

And the name-dropping doesn’t end there. Armageddon, Titanic, Cloverfield, Jericho, and Lost were also mentioned, and frankly, these are enough to make me believe that there really is no more hope for mankind and all our cities will be washed below sea level once that giant, nuclear reptile rouses awake from his sleep. But not before the aliens get here and spit their red chewing gum on us all.

Heeeenihow.  I Am Alive (PS3, Xbox 360) will supposedly focus on the very idea of survival, allowing you access to items that are necessary for it, but no more than that. Weapons and ammo won’t magically appear behind alleyways, and in fact will be much scarcer. But there will be water. Bottled, at that. “In I Am Alive, we’re not only turning your everyday life upside down; we’re also changing the very social values and rules that both everyday life and videogames rely on.”

Oh, I think I like my everyday life just fine right now, thank you.

And as the game is set on a post-earthquake Chicago and taken from the first person perspective,

We wanted the player to really feel the power of Mother Nature, to feel the danger coming from the collapsing towers and devastating rifts, feel the chaos happening all around him. There’s nothing like a first-person view to create that kind of emotion.

We want to know more, Ubisoft! Here’s hoping they’ll reveal more very soon. Preferably before night falls and we turn into zombies, cannibalizing on each other. Cos that’s just gross.

Game’s set for a release on April 15, 2009.
